Psychotherapy

Dr. Monnica Williams administers cognitive-behavioral therapy to adults with obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, phobias, and other anxiety disorders. She has an appointment as an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Dr. Williams' office is located in University City in Philadelphia at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety, directed by Dr. Edna Foa. She also offers patients in-depth assessments to provide an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan for people with anxiety.

Specialized Treatment

Treatment is offered for the following issues:

• Compulsive or repetitive behaviors, such as excessive washing or checking
• Fears of animals, spiders, storms, heights, enclosed spaces or specific items
• Collecting too many things and/or inability to discard items
• Feeling worried or fearful of social situations
• Religious or Christian worries, esp. surrounding salvation or morality
• Sexual obsessions, such as fears of being a pedophile or having a homosexual orientation
• Panic attacks and fears of having a panic attack
• Painful memories from childhood, such as sexual or physical abuse
• Traumatic experiences, such as rape, assault, or auto accidents
• War memories from combat or being held hostage
• Anxiety from difficulty adjusting to new situations, such as changes in employment, change location, or family configuration
• Anxiety from racism, discrimination, or minority status
