Many societies and religions
Many societies and religions throughout history have considered homosexuality a taboo. Although conditions for gays have improved considerably in Western society, there are still many people who adhere to traditional beliefs that involve negative feelings about homosexuality.
Many conservative religious people and organizations (for example, Focus on the Family) in the US consider homosexuality a menace because of political activity that is changing traditional laws and customs. These changes make some people feel threatened and angry. Change is something is that embraced by some but resisted by others, and that is true of any type of change.
Hope that answers your question.
