Hi Calli00, It sounds like
Hi Calli00,
It sounds like you are describing EMDR, which stands for "eye movement desensitization and reprocessing". This is a type of therapy that has been shown to very effective in the treatment of traumatic memories. It is not typically used in the treatment of OCD or generalized anxiety disorder.
While EMDR is usually done by a trained therapist who directs lateral eye movements, it can also be done by using other types of stimuli including the use of sounds to stimulate the brain, or hand-tapping.
You are referring to the audio stimulation method in which bilateral sounds are used (via headphones) to facilitate the desensitization and reprocessing of the traumatic memories and the distress associated with them.
